Edward Kwao
Edward Kwao
Edward Kwao was born and raised in Ghana, where he received his bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He is currently an Electrical and Computer Engineering doctoral researcher at North Carolina A&T State University's Wireless Systems and Electromagnetics Research Lab (WiSERL), with his research focus on leveraging Quantum Magnonics properties to explore new Quantum devices, investigating advance RF and antenna designs, and Microwave circuits for modern and future wireless systems such as cellular networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID and military systems. He is also enthusiastic about security in these technologies, studying flaws in designs that can be exploited by an attacker.
In his KNUST days, he cultivated the habit of self-study and independently finding information. This ability enabled him to overcome complex coursework and projects. These cumulative efforts would eventually bring him to the point in his final year where he would lead a team of three to design a high gain printed log-periodic dipole antenna for Ultra High Frequency (UHF) applications such as television transmission and reception, while he was with the Antenna Group, KNUST.
Prior to his research endeavors at North Carolina A&T State University, he did his Master of Engineering in Intelligence Media Engineering at Hanbat National University (HBNU) in South Korea, and conducted research in various wireless communication areas such as mobile network security (4G, 5G & beyond) and adversarial AI at the Intelligent Communications and Information Security (ICIS) lab. He also received the best academic award at the Graduate School of Software Convergence, HBNU, at the end of his studies.
Aside from his academic and research passions, Edward takes delight in grassroot involvement programs, mentoring kids and adults, providing writing support, young girls' empowerment programs, sports activities, and other creative pursuits.
One of his primary objectives is to improve the visibility of STEM education across diverse Ghanaian communities, with a focus on tightening the gap between cities and villages.
